Happy World Breastfeeding Week!
I just found out from a friend on Facebook that it’s World Breastfeeding week. That is awesome. Hooray for all the women out there breastfeeding their children. I knew that I wanted to breastfeed James even before I knew I was pregnant with him, but I didn’t know how I would feel about it, or about feeding him with other people around. But since he was born and I got past the initial rough period, I love it. I love the bond I get while feeding him. And I don’t mind feeding him in public at all. I fed him in line to see the tall ships this weekend, and I feed him at restaurants and wherever else we might be when he gets hungry. I guess I figure that he needs to eat, and people would much rather I fed him than to have him fuss.
Anyway, I encourage all you breastfeeding moms out there to keep up the good work!

I made this recipe from The Pioneer Woman for dinner tonight, and it was AWESOME. I’ve never used leeks before, but I’m a big fan. Probably could have used a little more pepper, but it was still really yummy. Ryan agreed. And how convenient! It only takes 1/2 cup of white wine. You wouldn’t want the rest to go to waste, would you?
Next time I think we’ll try it with bacon to cut down on the cost a little. But yeah; quick, and delicious.

Yea for breastfeeding week! I’m so happy it’s working for you, Becky. Just read in Brain, Child that a study published in Pediatrics found that if 90% of American mothers would breastfeed their infants exclusively for the fist six months, the US could save 13 billion dollars a year in medical bills and could prevent 911 deaths. Now if only our society could create a nursing friendly culture that would encourage and enable mothers to do this, we’d be set. (PS, remind me to tell you G’ma’s nursing story. She and G’pa were my biggest nursing advocates.)

I just had some sort of flash memory on Sunday that created an aching nostalgia for nursing my boys so intense it almost hurt. Oh, and my new ob/gyn gave me huge props when she asked if/how long I nursed. It was like getting an A+ from my new doctor!
I just think that when nursing works, it works so beautifully. It makes me sad for moms who can’t/don’t get through that rough period you mentioned, Becky, because once you do, it’s all gravy!
And I LOVE the look of the leek recipe. Big fan of leeks. I’ll plan to try it soon.
Have you ever made a cherry tomato salad with soy sauce, dark sesame oil, and basil? I made it last night; so good I almost cried.
