Another RNC question…
Why do the Republicans insist on using fear mongering as a campaign tactic? It seems that they want us to be afraid of our shadows so they can try to convince us that they can protect us.

You make me laugh. Here’s my question: Why do they insist on mocking people for actually wanting to get involved and try to improve our country?

Yep, that is always the game. Cause when people are scared they will maintain the status quo. Not that I buy the democrats’ claims of an Obama utopia either…

I am so glad the RNC is over. Going to and from school was getting so scary. There were cops EVERYWHERE! It was insane! I think it’s funny that people were so surprised at how many protesters and anarchists were there. So many people are disgusted with the Republicans. I will be excited when this election season is over. It has been extremely interesting but I am done.

Sarah Robinson,
Well, I wasn’t surprised by how many protesters and anarchist there were, I was surprised by how they were throwing feces and peeing on the cops. My girl friend was one of those cops(and yes I confirmed this to be true). It’s nice to see how crazy liberals deal with things.
Also, so many people are disgusted by the communist democrats these days who do nothing about the gas prices but go on vacation while others suffer to make ends meet.

Over the last 8 years, the current administration has done nothing to help America with their future energy needs. After creating a new energy strategy behind closed doors with representatives of energy companies and lobbyists, they have done nothing to wean America from their current energy sources. In 2004, they opposed the requirement for electric companies to generate 20 percent of their power from renewable sources by 2020. In 2005, they opposed measures to reduce American oil consumption and increase fuel economy standards. In 2006, they pledged renewable energy but then laid off 40 researchers because the republican budget cut $28 million from the National Renewable Energy Laboratory. And every year they spent money on tax breaks for big oil companies!
Unfortunately, as gas prices rise, the energy crisis can not be solved overnight or by delaying a government vacation. As the call for offshore drilling strengthens, we need say no and realize that this is not the answer to our future energy needs. It may relieve us of our dependence on foreign oil in the short term, but when our offshore supplies run out we will be back to where we are now, looking for cheaper energy supplies. America is dependent on oil and needs to take this opportunity to develop, not delay, long term alternative renewable energy sources across the board. And in the short term, we as American citizens need to demand better vehicle fuel efficiencies and help conserve fuel. The longer we delay our attempts to find a solution, will only cost us more in the end!

2 thoughts on the comment about the protesters and vacationing Dems…
1) The actions of a small extremist group are not representative of a population.
2) You should ask Sen. Norm Coleman, the Republican from Minnesota, about his fishing vacations in Alaska sponsored by (the now indicted) Sen. Ted Stevens, R-Alaska. His fishing partners were Oil execs and lobbyists, some of which have now been convicted of bribery. Apparently Sen. Coleman doesn’t want to give the money he got back. I’m not going to claim that the Dems are all saints. I just want to show that there’s crap on both sides of the fence.
I am curious to know some specifics about these vacationing Dems though. I like to get as much info on both major parties as I can. Anybody know any specifics?

I just wanted to make notice that I don’t mind a discussion about different viewpoints, but please can we refrain from calling names or assigning labels to people? I will delete or alter comments in the future as I see fit if people cannot make their point respectfully.

I’m guessing the reference is to congressional leadership maintaining the August recess as usual even though there was no action on the off-shore drilling bills presented shortly before the recess began.
We can blame congress; we can blame the administration; we can blame ourselves for failing to stand up and say ENOUGH. I agree with Becky, though, that there’s no need to be mean about it. Sheesh.

Jacob,
I agree with you on most of what you said. But as I have understand it, ALOT if not MOST of just our normal day stuff needs oil as a by product. I don’t know how to explain it other than I heard someone on the radio explain all these different products that need oil. We still need to drill offshore, but YES, there needs to be an increase in solar and wind power and the other alternatives. Here in AZ, it’s sad that hardly anybody has solar panels on there houses. Just think if every house had them how much energy we would save by having the fifth largest city in the US cut it’s energy supply in half.
We have a friend who does this, however it is extremely expensive. The solar panels are expensive but they will last a life time, it’s the darn batteries that you have to change out every 6-10 years that cost thousands. What I don’t get is why are these alternative energy sources so expensive.
Also, in regards to your comment about the “Republican budget in 2006 cut the budget”, wasn’t it the Democrats who had the majority then? And even if it was the Republican budget that got through, the Democrats voted for it too.
And about raising taxes or giving tax breaks on the big oil companies. The big oil companies get around how much they pay for taxes by increasing the amount we have to pay for oil. So if there taxes goes up, they just charge someone else a higher amount for the oil. Again, I’m not sure if this makes sense as I am horrible at explaining some of this stuff, but it just seems to me a lot of these issues are a loose loose situation regardless of how you go about it.
And, why is that we are so concerned about how much oil companies make anyway? Why don’t we tax Bill Gates or the CEO of Google more because of how much billions of dollars he makes in the computer industry. Or people who made millions in the housing market?
For everyone: in regards to my comment about calling democrats communists, I may also say that I also believe the Republicans are communists too. Every year more and more bills get pass that take our individual rights as citizens away. If we aren’t careful, we may just end up a socialist nation like Canada or Europe pretty soon. People can’t even speak out against homosexuals anymore in Canada without getting thrown in jail. This I find to be very scary and wrong… We need to get back to the constitution again!

My rebuttle:
1. A lot of things are currently made from oil byproducts, but they don’t NEED to be made from oil byproducts. They are made from oil byproducts because so far oil byproducts have been cheaper than the alternatives. Petroleum free alternatives are becoming more readily available, and they are getting closer in price to their petroleum based counterparts. We’ve been using a non-petroleum based dish detergent. It works great and is only slightly more expensive than Dawn, which we had been using.
2. In legislative year 2006 the Republicans had the majority in both the House of Representatives and the Senate.
3. If taxes for oil companies go up they certainly can raise their prices to make up the difference. But, as was seen this summer, Americans are starting to cut back on their oil usage, the demand for oil went down somewhat, and the cost of oil has fallen with the lessening demand. Oil companies will have to be careful with how much they raise prices. It’s simple economics. As the cost goes up, the demand goes down. As the demand goes down, the cost goes down even more. Of course, it goes in cycles. The cost of oil won’t go back down to a reasonable level.
4. People are concerned with how much oil companies make because while the price of oil has been going up, oil companies have been raking in record profits year after year. Also, while Bill Gates has billions, the oil companies make billions every year.
5. Lastly, I just want to point out that Canada is not a socialist country, it’s a democracy. Also, Europe is not a country, it’s a continent. Some of the countries in Europe may have socialist governments, but others are democratic and a few still are still monarchies. In addition, while I agree wholeheartedly with the freedom of speech, I find it quite offensive when people speak out against homosexuals or any other group based on their personal beliefs and life choices.

” People can’t even speak out against homosexuals anymore in Canada without getting thrown in jail.”
On that subject, what about sexually harassing women, why can’t we do that anymore? And what happened to our right to stone people we found different and burn witches? Oh, and the Jews too!!

I have been out of this discussion since I posted on it. I would like to say something in response to the “crazy liberals” comment. Being a “crazy liberal” I feel the need to defend my fellow liberals. I was down here for the RNC. I got to witness the chaos and destruction first hand. The people throwing feces and urinating on cops were NOT the “crazy liberals.” They were people who were there to spew their hatred towards the government. They did not represent Democrats or liberals. They represented the few people in America who believe in being anti-government. Please don’t lump us liberals in with the anti-government anarchists. We are nothing alike.
