Pay It Forward Time, People!
Yay! It’s time for my first official blog contest. And you don’t even need to be the 8234th caller, or know the capital of some remote country or anything! This is a contest even I could win. Well, theoretically. I mean, obviously I can’t win my own contest, but you know what I mean.
Before we get things started I want to welcome all the new people (even if there are only like 2 of you). Also, I want to let you know right now that we have comment moderation on so that we don’t get spam, so it might take an hour or 2 for them to show up (darn Ryan having control of that and not telling me how to do it – for some reason it won’t let us moderate from the WordPress dashboard thing). Anywho, let’s get on with it!
The contest starts now, and will end at 11:59pm on July 4th because I said so. After it is over I will use a random number generator to pick a commenter, and that person wins a care package from me! All you have to do to enter is comment below. If you want some direction (I always like direction, don’t you?), and because I’m new to this whole blogging in front of strangers thing, you should ask me a question that you would like me to answer. I will try to answer any questions in future posts. It will be fun! I promise! Or you can tell me your 4th of July plans. Whichever. Or just do your own thing. I’m flexible (read: a people-pleasing pushover).
The prize for this awesomely simple contest is yet to be decided. I like Swistle’s “go to Target and pick out things that remind me of the person” method, so I will probably go that route. But who knows. It’ll be a surprise! Oh, and if you win, you must pay it forward – I can hold another contest and choose a winner for you if you don’t have your own blog, or you can post the contest on your blog.
So yah…get to the commenting. I will keep this post at the top all week (hahaha…like I was going to post again anyway!) so that you have time to comment (or think of a great question).
Oh, and to answer my own question, Ryan and I will be heading down toward the cities to celebrate the 4th with his family. Last time we were there they tried to blow everyone up with fireworks*, so it should be good times!
*Acutally it was that a lit firework fell into a box of unlit fireworks and about 1 minute of chaos ensued, with people running for the garage. No one was hurt and so now it is a funny story. As most possibly-very-tragic-but-no-one-got-hurt stories are.
**I forgot to specify 11:59 Central Time on Friday. I’m whatever-centric it is when you assume everyone goes by YOUR local time. I’m also totally impressed at the number of commenters so far! Woo hoo!

I don’t have 4th plans this year. The past two years I’ve been working on political campaigns, so we worked on the 4th. This year, hubs and I are at a loss for what to do!!

We are going to eat Chinese food, a tradition on accident, and having a late night picnic to watch fireworks with our kids for the first time.
What books are on you to-read list/shelf/table?

I’m finally catching up after shirking my comment moderation duties. Although, I don’t suppose I’m allowed to win this contest either.

Okay…
What do you think is the biggest problem in the world, and why, and how would you suggest fixing it?

All I have to do is comment? I so don’t get you young kids and your fancy internet games.
My question – what would you, Becky, buy yourself if you went to Target and bought yourself a care package full of stuff that reminded you of you?

July 4th I get to play in the band…the parade band! I’m 34…and I just moved here from Canada…it’s going to be an experience I tell you. After that, kiddo has a birthday party to attend (wth?) and then of course, cowering in the corner from all the big noises.

We’re going to visit family in Austin for the 4th.

When you said the Cities, I had to go check — yep, you’re Minnesotans :) (Grew up in the Cities)
So what is your favorite thing to do in the Cities?

We’re camping at Stoe Bridge Park. Cindy & I decided to go camping and told the rest of the crew that they are welcome to come, but we are not cooking for or running after any one else. Dad is putting the pontoon in the river so we’ll have 4 lazy days of fishing, sunning, drifting down the river & drinking refreshing beverages of some sort. Wish you could join us but we’ll see you on the 12th.

Qn: If you could only read one blog for the rest of your life, which one would it be?

I don’t think I have any 4th plans. How about I tell you the capital of some remote country instead? Wait, now I have to go look one up…

In an attempt not to ask something embarrassing that I already know the answer to, I guess I’ll tell you what I’m doing this weekend… I’m going to Rochester to visit my sister and brother-in-law. We’re going to his family’s place on Friday, and then up to my parent’s place Sunday for my dad’s birthday which is later that week (so, really I’m going to “The Cities”, just like in “The Village”). BTW, I’m glad your blog finally has a feed!! ;)

I’m a Minnesotan TOO! Go Fig :) Have a happy 4th!

I like this pay it forward idea through blogging and leaving comments. It reminds me of the Drive Thru Difference that KTIS 98.5 has except through a blog. On the 4th of July I will be playing in the community band that I belong to and then relax the rest of the weekend since it is my weekend off. Happy 4th of July!!

Okay, a question… How many 5-pound sacks of potatoes would you have to stack on the top of the downward-leaning side of the Leaning Tower of Pisa to completely topple it?

His Hers and Ours weekend… hmm, we have no ours but between his and mine we have 6 kids. There will be no OURS.
Parades and BBQ’s and fireworks, Oh my.

We will be going to the big parade to see my son march in the band, then have a family barbeque later on that day.

We’re gonna go see the fireworks on the National Mall. Not too shabby.

I’m going to Sacramento this weekend so my son can spend time with his father.

I am heading to IN for the 4th.
My husband nearly killed my mother, sister and Grandmother in a freak firework incident last year, so we hoping to NOT repeat that this year!

I’m not double-commenting in hopes of an extra shot at winning…the “janice” who commented above is a different “janice,” which is funny because I almost never meet anyone else with my name. Pat and I are convinced that the only time you ever see a character named “Janice” in TV/movie-land, she’s either really nuts (see the Star-Trek crazed temp in season one of “The West Wing”) or kind of pathetic (see Janice Soprano on “The Sopranos”) or incredibly annoying (see Chandler’s ex-girlfriend on “Friends”). I’m sure the other Janice on here is very brilliant, funny, and cool, however. In real life, most of us are.
Anyway, we’re home for the 4th with no big plans other than a pool party at the neighbors’ house, carnival in downtown Suburbandale, and fireworks after dark.
Becky, what’s your favorite childhood memory of Grandma and Grandpa’s house?

Admittedly new here, so I don’t know anything about you! So what is the most exciting thing that has ever happened to you?

Oh, and please tell me the title is a reference to South Park?

I’m going to an annual party at a friend of mine from high school! Usually, others will come in from out of town for this, but most are unavailable this year, so just one other. But, I know her fam really well, plus the other guests that I’ve seen there every year, so it’s all good.

We went to a huge parade, we’re grilling out and then we’ll go swimming and lounge around. Perfect.

We are spending most of the day at home on the 4th (today). Then in the evening we plan to take our son to the park. They have live music with the symphony orchestra and then fireworks.

Hmmmm….if you could be any profession at all, what would you want to be?
