The procrastination has got to stop.
So I’m kind of a procrastinator. When I was in college and had a big test or paper due, my roommate Alyson would lock me in my room and make surprise visits to make sure I wasn’t chatting online or cleaning (my personal favorite form of procrastination. “Look! I’m being productive!”). I do work well under pressure, and so during school it usually wasn’t a big deal. I don’t think I ever had to actually pull an all-nighter. But a wedding…it’s a little bigger than a paper on the theories of Nietzsche. And so it takes a little bit more in the advanced prep department.
I haven’t been horrible about procrastinating…I mean, the fact that I am VERY VERY happy to be getting married to Ryan is incentive to keep things moving forward for the most part. And the big things are done. We have a church, officiant, reception location, dresses and tuxes, a photographer, and flowers. But there are a lot of little things that are left (like, perhaps, a CAKE??). And that is what I’ve been putting off. It’s not so much that I don’t care about the other stuff. I do. I just got a little overwhelmed with all the phone calls that this is taking (FYI, I really dislike talking to strangers…especially on the phone…especially about things I know nothing about – like wedding cake). And so rather than tackle one small thing at a time, like a normal person would, I’ve kind of let it all go for a couple weeks. I mean, I’ve been looking for ideas and taking mental notes, but I haven’t actually done anything lately.
So I told myself that this week it needed to end. I needed to get my butt in gear. We have just over a month and a half left until the wedding, and there is a lot to do, but it’s not so much that it can’t be done (although if I don’t get a call from the music lady at the church heads are going to roll soon. 3 phone calls – 2 to her home number and 1 to her work number – should be enough for her to give me a call back, don’t you think?). So far this week I have called the church lady again, resent a couple invitations that had the wrong addresses, opened the RSVPs we’ve gotten so far and set them aside to log into the computer, and…um…I don’t know. Cleaned the house? I am planning on testing out an idea I have for escort cards though. Does that count? And I’m getting a haircut before my first shower this weekend! Eek! Oh, and I may have found a foundation to use for the wedding (I don’t normally wear any).
Yah…I’m a slacker, I know. Apparently I need to be locked in my room with no computer access and a stack of wedding projects. :-P
update: Cindy from church called, and we have a meeting on May 11th after the 10:00 Mass. It’s Mother’s Day, I know. But it’s also the first Sunday we will be in town between now and then! Yikes! Now just to find a pianist (or organist).

So you come by the “procrastination” thing quite honestly, since I perfected the craft. I would suggest that instead of calling a bakery, that you & Ryan actually go in and look at what they can do. Take a picture if you find something you like as well so they can tell you if they can do it. I agree on the phone thing also. But the most difficult thing is just picking the darn thing up and dialing the number. I wish I could be there to help more with all this, but I’m looking forward to this weekend!

I am totally with you on the procrastination, like I need a deadline looming in front of my face before I feel the need to act (I’ve never missed a deadline). Although I did start typing up my 100-page screenplay in college THE NIGHT BEFORE IT WAS DUE. That was a long 8 hours.
I also don’t like talking to strangers on the phone, to the point I will procrastinate. I say lock yourself in a room with the phone and just do it. Then reward yourself with something tasty.

A tip from fellow non-make-up-wearers in the foundation department (I recall we did this for Aunt Janice’s wedding). Go to the Clinque counter at your local department store and get a lovely lady there to pretty you up and then buy whatever she used. They know their stuff. Or…where you talking about foundation garments…?

HAHAHA. That’s exactly what I was planning! I actually stopped by the Clinique counter on Wednesday, and she gave me a sample foundation to try out and told me about a special sale thing they are doing in May, so I should come back then to get a “look.” So far I love the foundation, so I’m excited!
(don’t worry – I have all my foundation garments already!)
